Codependent Caregiving
http://www.scu.edu/hospice/Codependent%20Caregiving.pdf

Codependency is defined as "any suffering and/or dysfunction that is associated with or results from focusing on the needs or behaviours of others."

In this thoughtful article by Dale Larson we are cautioned against the overuse of the codependency label. Of course as caregivers we need to be aware of and change any behaviours that are not working, but we don't have to feel like we have a disease in order to do that. Dr. Larson outlines several ways that the co-dependency label can undermine confidence and caring. In the end he calls for adopting a caring compassionate attitude toward ourselves and others, and strengthening our support systems. Please visit above address to see the complete article.
