Anyone who has spent any time in a hospital knows that the nurses set the tone for the facility. If the nurses are crazed and burned out, a hospital ward can look like a nightmare. If the nurses are friendly and centered it is not so bad. The nurses are the only ones who can see and serve the overall, holistic, picture of the patients condition. They act as the liasons between the families, doctors, ancillary therapies and the patients. They are the true custodians of the patients' care.
In this day and age of regulation, paperwork, computers, and profit, nurses need a way to return to and keep in touch with the source of healing, the connection with their higher aspirations. Fortunately, the AHNA organization/website provides the way. A good source of holistic educational sources for nurses, this site features links to programs in complementary practices in its continuing education dept. The "approved educational programs" page offers a wide variety of alternative programs. The excellent yearly conference is a time to renew and meet with other nurses who are on the same or similar paths. The conference program which is posted on the site, can in itself act as a source for exploring new vistas. Finally, the mission statement and vision of the organization as posted on the website can act as an anchor for nurses who are feeling out of touch with today's "health care" environment.
A source of community, education, and vision, this organization fills a great need and serves a practical purpose in these crazy times.
