This is just one of an ongoing series of workshops that are sponsored through the compassionate touch organization. Aromatherapy, Massage, Music and Touch/Energy approaches will be explored. COMPASSIONATE TOUCH® is hands-on contact that is given with mindful attention, not just to the physical condition of the body, but also to psycho-social, emotional and spiritual aspect of the individual.
COMPASSIONATE TOUCH® not only promotes relaxation, reduces stress and eases pain, but also nurtures and comforts, resulting in a greater quality of life.
32 million people are aged 65 or older and studies indicate that the greatest population increase in the next 20 years will be those over age 85.
For many elders, living in a skilled nursing home care community will be necessary. These individuals are often deprived of touch that is essential to a quality of life. Decreased contact with family or friends as well as current cultural attitudes about aging contributes to this loss of nurturing physical contact.
The gentle massage therapy technique, focused attention and sensitive communication used in COMPASSIONATE TOUCH® returns the human touch thus meeting the needs of elders and the seriously ill.
